  7. Lots.  Many general audio compression and (all?) freely redistributable
  8. speech specific compression packages can be found on:

  12. One new package is shn114.zip, which is a DOS port of shorten.  This
  13. gives lossless and ADPCM style compression.  As it is designed for audio
  14. it gives better lossless compression than general purpose packages (eg
  15. gzip), and as it is designed for file compression it can give less
  16. distortion than ADPCM algorithms which have to work at a fixed
  17. compression ratio.  As I said, the DOS port is new, and I appreciate
  18. hearing about any problems with it.
